    US State Department resumes processing Harvard student visas after judge’s ruling

    WASHINGTON: The USA State Division directed all US missions overseas and consular sections to renew processing Harvard College scholar and change customer visas after a federal choose in Boston final week temporarily blocked President Donald Trump’s latest ban on foreign students at the Ivy League institution.

    In a diplomatic cable despatched final Friday (Jun 6) and signed by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the State Division cited components of the choose’s resolution, saying the recent directive was “in accordance with” the non permanent restraining order.

    Beneath that order granted to Harvard late final Thursday, US District Choose Allison Burroughs blocked Trump’s proclamation from taking impact pending additional litigation of the matter.

    Trump had cited nationwide safety issues as justification for barring worldwide college students from getting into the US to pursue research at Harvard.

    The Trump administration has launched a multi-pronged assault on the nation’s oldest and wealthiest college, freezing billions of dollars in grants and other funding and proposing to finish its tax-exempt standing, prompting a collection of authorized challenges.

    Harvard argues that the administration is retaliating in opposition to it for refusing to accede to calls for to regulate the varsity’s governance, curriculum and the ideology of its college and college students.

    The State Division didn’t instantly reply to a request for remark.
