As a former VISTA volunteer, I applaud efforts of greater than 20 states to sue the Trump administration over efforts to dismantle AmeriCorps. (“WA joins lawsuit against Trump to stop AmeriCorps cuts,” April 29, Native Information)
AmeriCorps staff mainly serve together with VISTAs in native communities as a home model of the Peace Corps.
Whereas VISTA faces cuts as effectively, AmeriCorps will lose almost $400 million in grants and finish the service of 32,000 staff.
My future spouse, Shari, and I had been assigned over 50 years in the past to work with former migrant employee households at Arizona Job Schools in Casa Grande, Ariz.
Our VISTA expertise was life-changing and helped put together us for careers in native authorities and schooling.
Trump’s efforts towards AmeriCorps are mean-spirited and don’t get monetary savings in the long term.
