    Trump officials push Russia-Ukraine peace deal after Vatican meeting

    WASHINGTON: Prime officers in US President Donald Trump’s administration on Sunday (Apr 27) pressed Russia and Ukraine to make headway on a peace deal following a one-on-one meeting between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the Vatican a day earlier.

    “It must occur quickly,” US Secretary of State Marco Rubio instructed NBC’s ‘Meet the Press.’ “We can not proceed to dedicate time and sources to this effort if it is not going to return to fruition.”

    Rubio stated the US would think about within the coming week whether or not to proceed mediating talks “or if it is time to kind of deal with another points.”

    Trump and Zelenskyy, in Rome for the funeral of Pope Francis, met in a Vatican basilica on Saturday to attempt to revive faltering efforts to finish Russia’s conflict with Ukraine.
