    Russia clears beaches after Black Sea oil spill, declares emergency in Crimea

    Russia declared a regional state of emergency on Saturday (Jan 4) in Crimea, which it seized from Ukraine in 2014, as staff cleared tons of contaminated sand and earth on both aspect of the Kerch Strait following an oil spill within the Black Sea final month.

    Mikhail Razvozhaev, the Russia-installed governor of the town of Sevastopol, stated new traces of minor air pollution required pressing elimination and declared a state of emergency within the metropolis of Sevastopol – giving authorities extra energy to take swift selections equivalent to ordering residents to evacuate their houses.

    The Kerch Strait runs between the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov and separates Crimea’s Kerch Peninsula from Russia’s Krasnodar area.
