To the editor: The primary three pages of the Nov. 17 print version’s California part had been horror story after horror story. Man killed, man accused of slaying, newborn found dead, man jailed, man convicted and so forth.

Years in the past whereas on California’s central coast, I picked up an area paper. The second web page was titled “Good Information,” and it had articles about constructive actions in the neighborhood — teenagers volunteering, charitable organizations and the like.

Many individuals are doing great issues, and I might like to examine that day-after-day. The wars in Ukraine and the Center East are scary, and our political local weather is in a really unhappy state, however there are uplifting tales ready to be written.

The world will not be a depressing place.

    Julie Wodark, Orange

    ..

To the editor: I used to be in all probability not shocked, however I used to be nonetheless shaken by the headlines within the California part of Sunday’s paper:

“Newport Seaside man will get life in jail for hate-motivated killing of ex-schoolmate,” “Man accused of slaying couple,” “Lancaster man pleads responsible to 375 ‘swatting’ calls,” “LAPD arrests suspect in a minimum of 4 rapes,” “New child is discovered useless on Skid Row,” and, “Solar Valley man convicted in loss of life of juvenile’s mother and father.”

This comes after a hateful, vengeance-filled presidential marketing campaign. As Joseph Conrad wrote in “The Coronary heart of Darkness”: “The horror! The horror!”

The query for every of us: Are our hearts this deeply darkened?

    Tim Vivian, Bakersfield
