Pope Leo XIV delivered his first public remarks since taking up as chief of the Roman Catholic Church on Thursday from the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica. He urged the world to hunt peace and keep in mind those that endure. The next is a transcript of his speech.
Peace be with you! Dearest brothers and sisters, this was the primary greeting of the risen Christ, the great shepherd who gave his life for the flock of God. I, too, would really like this greeting of peace to enter your hearts, to achieve your households and all folks, wherever they’re; and all of the peoples, and all of the earth: Peace be with you.
That is the peace of the risen Christ, a disarming and humble and preserving peace. It comes from God. God, who loves all of us, with none limits or situations. Allow us to maintain in our ears the weak however all the time courageous voice of Pope Francis, who blessed Rome — the Pope who blessed Rome and the world that day on the morning of Easter.
Permit me to proceed that very same blessing. God loves us, all of us, evil won’t prevail. We’re all within the palms of God. With out concern, united, hand in hand with God and amongst ourselves, we are going to go ahead. We’re disciples of Christ, Christ goes earlier than us, and the world wants his mild. Humanity wants him like a bridge to achieve God and his love. You assist us to construct bridges with dialogue and encounter so we are able to all be one folks all the time in peace.

Thanks to my Cardinal brothers who selected me to be the successor of Peter and to stroll along with you as a united church looking all collectively for peace and justice, working collectively as ladies and men, devoted to Jesus Christ with out concern, proclaiming Christ, to be missionaries, devoted to the Gospel.
I’m a son of Saint Augustine, an Augustinian. He mentioned, “With you I’m a Christian, for you a bishop.” So might all of us stroll collectively towards that homeland that God has ready for us.
To the church of Rome, a particular greeting: Now we have to look collectively the way to be a missionary church, constructing bridges, dialogue, all the time open to receiving with open arms for everybody, like this sq., open to all, to all who want our charity, our presence, dialogue, love.
