    Israeli military probes suspected abuse of Palestinian detainee, drawing protests

    JERUSALEM: Israel’s army opened an investigation into suspected abuse of a Palestinian held at a detention camp for prisoners captured throughout the Gaza warfare, it stated on Monday (Jul 29), drawing an outcry from right-wing protesters and politicians.

    The army stated its Advocate Common had ordered the inquiry “following suspected substantial abuse of a detainee”. It supplied no additional particulars.

    Military Radio stated army police had proven up as a part of their investigation on the Sde Teiman detention website the place about 10 reserve troopers had been suspected of abusing a prisoner captured from an elite unit of the Palestinian group Hamas.

    Rights teams together with the Affiliation for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI) have alleged severe abuse of detainees on the camp, a former army base within the Negev desert, which Israel has introduced will likely be phased out. The army had beforehand introduced it was investigating allegations of abuse.

    Because the army police arrived on the camp, various civilian protesters, together with far-right members of parliament, gathered exterior, denouncing the investigation of troopers they stated had been doing their responsibility. Some tried to interrupt into the bottom.

    Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Yoav Gallant denounced the break-in try.
