Iran’s oil minister landed on Kharg Island, house to the nation’s important export terminal, and held talks with a naval commander on Sunday (Oct 6), the oil ministry’s information web site Shana reported, amid concern Israel might assault power amenities.

An Israeli navy spokesman stated on Saturday that Israel would retaliate in response to final week’s missile assault by Tehran “when the time is true”.

US information web site Axios cited Israeli officers as saying Iran’s oil amenities may very well be hit, whereas US President Joe Biden stated on Friday that he didn’t assume Israel had but concluded how one can reply.

Iran is a member of the Group of the Petroleum Exporting Nations (OPEC) with manufacturing of round 3.2 million barrels per day (bpd), or 3 per cent of worldwide output. Iranian oil exports have climbed this 12 months to close multi-year highs of 1.7 million bpd regardless of US sanctions.

Most of its oil and fuel wealth is positioned within the south of the nation, the place the Kharg Island terminal is located and from which round 90 per cent of Iranian oil exports are shipped.

Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad arrived on Sunday “to go to the oil amenities and meet operational workers positioned on Kharg Island,” Shana reported, including that the oil terminal there has the capability to retailer 23 million barrels of crude.

State media reported Paknejad met with Mohammad Hossein Bargahi, a Revolutionary Guards Navy commander, to examine the safety of Iran’s South Pars fuel platforms and assess the efficient actions of the Guards’ 4th Naval Area.

“The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy performs an necessary position within the safety of oil and fuel amenities,” Paknejad was quoted as saying.

China, which doesn’t recognise US sanctions, is Tehran’s largest oil buyer and in keeping with analysts imported 1.2 to 1.4 million barrels per day from Iran within the first half of 2024.
