The Related Press article “A Palestinian student at Columbia is freed after his arrest at a citizenship interview” (April 30, Nation) brings additional gentle to the U.S. authorities’s assault on free speech.
Mohsen Mahdawi is focused as a result of he organized campus protests at Columbia College and cofounded the varsity’s Palestinian Pupil Union with Mahmoud Khalil. Rümeysa Öztürk, a Tufts College scholar from Turkey, co-wrote an op-ed within the scholar newspaper. These and others protesting towards the genocide of Gaza are declared a menace to nationwide safety, are arrested and threatened with deportation. Because the article notes, the choose who ordered the discharge of Mahdawi stated such arrests had been paying homage to the McCarthy period of the Fifties.
We should stand as much as the tyranny of the neo-fascist Trump regime.
