EPA: Danger of microplastics | The Seattle Times

Re: “Trump may ax EPA’s research office and fire most of its staff” (March 18, Surroundings):

The article about cuts to the Environmental Safety Company’s scientific analysis workplace highlights the risks this rogue administration poses to our well being.

One contaminant in our consuming water that the present EPA is prone to ignore is the rising downside of microplastics. Current analysis signifies that microplastics have been found in human brains and in different organs and pose serious health risks.

Luckily, pursuant to the Protected Consuming Water Act, a petition to the EPA signed by consumer advocacy groups would very likely require EPA to monitor our drinking water for microplastics. By regulation, when seven state governors petition the EPA to watch harmful chemical compounds in our water, the EPA should comply or present an in depth justification for his or her refusal.

Such monitoring might pave the best way for future motion to handle this harmful environmental and well being concern. I urge Gov. Bob Ferguson to take this motion.

    Selden Prentice, Seattle
