    China ‘firmly rejects’ US claim that it violated tariff deal

    BEIJING: China mentioned on Monday (Jun 2) it “firmly rejects” US claims that it had violated a sweeping tariffs deal, as tensions between the 2 financial superpowers confirmed indicators of ratcheting again up.

    Beijing and Washington final month agreed to slash staggeringly excessive tariffs on one another for 90 days after talks between high officers in Geneva.

    However high Washington officers final week accused China of violating the deal, with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick saying Beijing was “slow-rolling” the settlement in feedback to “Fox Information Sunday”.

    China hit again on Monday, saying Washington “has made bogus costs and unreasonably accused China of violating the consensus, which is critically opposite to the information”.

    “China firmly rejects these unreasonable accusations,” its commerce ministry mentioned in a press release.

    US President Donald Trump mentioned final week that China had “totally violated” the deal, with out offering particulars.

    Beijing’s commerce ministry mentioned it “has been agency in safeguarding its rights and pursuits, and honest in implementing the consensus”.

    It fired again that Washington “has successively launched quite a few discriminatory restrictive measures in opposition to China” because the Geneva talks.

    The ministry cited export controls on synthetic intelligence chips, curbs on the sale of chip design software program and the revocation of Chinese student visas in the USA.

    “We urge the US to satisfy China midway, instantly appropriate its wrongful actions, and collectively uphold the consensus from the Geneva commerce talks,” the ministry mentioned.

    If not, “China will proceed to resolutely take sturdy measures to uphold its authentic rights and pursuits”, it added.
