Re: “DOJ opens inquiry into new WA law requiring clergy to report abuse” (Might 5, Legislation & Justice):
I applaud Senate Invoice 5375, signed by Gov. Bob Ferguson into regulation Might 2, that makes clergy necessary reporters of suspected youngster abuse or neglect to the authorities, even when it’s a matter heard by a priest in confession. Monks now be part of a complete host of execs — like medical personnel and college personnel — who’re charged with the welfare of our kids.
Baby abuse and neglect are heinous and merciless. Individuals who attraction to the divine, and search God’s forgiveness by confessing such crimes within the confessional, shouldn’t be absolved from receiving earthly justice.
