The UK’s grocery watchdog has launched an investigation into whether or not Amazon has been delaying funds to meals suppliers after preliminary “proof” was dropped at its consideration.
The Groceries Code Adjudicator, which helps make sure the UK’s largest grocers deal with suppliers pretty, stated in a press release on Friday “it has cheap grounds to suspect” Amazon had delayed funds to suppliers between March 2022 and June 2025.
Amazon sells groceries within the UK via its personal web site and a small chain of Amazon Contemporary comfort shops. Since 2022, its grocery arm has confronted elevated scrutiny within the UK.
It has been required to adjust to the UK’s Groceries Provide Code of Follow, a set of tips on how retailers ought to handle provider relationships, after it surpassed £1bn in annual grocery gross sales.
The GCA stated it will look into the character, extent and influence of practices that will have resulted in Amazon delaying funds, and can focus particularly on the interval since January 2024 to current.
