    Police searching for three attackers after 12 wounded in Toronto shooting | Gun Violence News

    Three masked males ‘opened fireplace indiscriminately’ at pub within the Canadian metropolis, authorities say.

    Police in Toronto say they’re looking for three males suspected of participating in a taking pictures that wounded at the very least 12 individuals at a pub within the Canadian metropolis.

    The masked gunmen opened fireplace on the Piper Arms Pub on its opening night time on Friday, based on authorities. The assault was the most recent incident in a years-long uptick in gun violence within the North American nation, which has prompted legislators to freeze the sale of some firearms lately.

    “They walked into the bar. They produced their weapons, and so they opened fireplace indiscriminately on the individuals sitting contained in the bar,” police Superintendent Paul MacIntyre advised reporters on Saturday.

    MacIntyre, who’s with the organised crime enforcement unit, added that six of the victims have gunshot wounds that aren’t life-threatening. He added that the others have been injured by damaged glass.

    The motive for the taking pictures remained unclear, police mentioned.

    “Our investigation will inform us whether or not or not this pub was focused for a specific purpose,” MacIntyre mentioned.

    “Possibly any person was inside that any person didn’t like. Possibly any person had a beef with the enterprise. We don’t know,” he added.

    The police official advised reporters that he had seen the bar’s surveillance video of the taking pictures, which confirmed individuals ducking for canopy or falling on the ground after being struck.

    “This can be a reckless act of violence that has shaken our group and metropolis,” he mentioned, including that the police will depart “no stone unturned” to find the suspects.

    Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow mentioned on the social media platform X that she was “deeply troubled” to listen to in regards to the taking pictures on the pub and added that the police chief had assured her “all vital assets have been deployed.”

    Violent crime involving guns has elevated by 81 p.c since 2009, based on the Canadian authorities.

    In December 2022, 5 individuals have been killed and one other wounded in a taking pictures within the suburbs of Toronto.

    The surge in gun violence has prompted the federal government to lately ban extra sorts of handguns and different firearms.
