The Trump administration is planning to shut greater than 120 IRS places of work nationwide.
The U.S. Common Companies Administration (GSA) introduced the closures in a letter obtained by the Washington Post.
Most of the closing IRS places of work have taxpayer help facilities inside them.
Final week, almost 7,000 probationary IRS workers had been laid off, reflecting the Trump administration’s plan to shrink the company.
This starkly contrasts the Biden administration’s earlier plans to rent almost 87,000 extra IRS brokers.

The Trump administration plans to shutter greater than 110 IRS places of work which have taxpayer help facilities because the White Home’s effectivity zeal carves deeper into the tax company.
The plan, outlined in a Tuesday letter from the U.S. Common Companies Administration that was obtained by The Washington Submit, comes within the midst of the federal tax submitting season that ends April 15, and because the administration is working to cut back companies’ headcount and reduce the footprint of the federal authorities. Final week, the IRS began shedding roughly 7,000 probationary workers.
At the least 113 taxpayer help facilities may have their leases terminated or not renewed after they expire, in line with a listing included with GSA’s letter. It’s unclear whether or not the help facilities — which offer free, in-person assist for tax filers, on an appointment foundation — will relocate or just shut.
All soft-term leases, which will be ended on brief discover, are anticipated to be terminated apart from these deemed “public-facing,” in line with the letter, which was signed by Michael Peters, the GSA’s commissioner for public buildings.
