Homelessness: Enforce laws | The Seattle Times

Re: “Restricting sleeping in public won’t end homelessness” (Feb. 11, Opinion):

The editorial criticized cities which have banned sleeping outdoors in parks, close to colleges, day care facilities and libraries. Undergirding the general public demand for such legal guidelines are the progressive left’s insurance policies (defund the police, delicate on private duty, homeless “rights” over civic order and so on.,) which can be seen as a serious reason for the homeless disaster.

Individuals are uninterested in open drug use, excessive crime charges, graffiti, closing companies, tolerance of shoplifting, transit security and poor police response instances. “Housing first” won’t succeed until legal guidelines proscribing conduct are handed concurrently.

    Warren Peterson, Seattle
