    Nobel winner Yunus sworn in to lead Bangladesh interim government

    DHAKA: Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus was sworn into workplace Thursday (Aug 8), vowing to lead Bangladesh back to democracy after a student-led uprising ended the 15-year rule of Sheikh Hasina.

    Yunus, who earlier on Thursday had hailed the overthrow of Hasina as Bangladesh’s “second independence”, swore to “uphold, help and defend the structure”, in entrance of political and civil society leaders, generals and diplomats on the presidential palace.

    “At present is an excellent day for us,” Yunus, 84, informed reporters hours earlier when he returned to Dhaka from Europe.

    “Bangladesh has created a brand new victory day. Bangladesh has acquired a second independence.”

    Yunus known as for the restoration of order after weeks of violence that left at least 455 people dead, calling on residents to protect one another, together with minorities who got here below assault.

    “Legislation and order is our first process … We can not take a step ahead until we repair the regulation and order state of affairs,” he mentioned.

    “My name to the folks is when you’ve got belief in me, then be sure there will probably be no assaults towards anybody, wherever within the nation.”

    “Each individual is our brother … our process is to guard them,” Yunus mentioned, including that “the entire of Bangladesh is one huge household”.
