    BRUSSELS, Belgium: European Union overseas coverage chief Kaja Kallas on Thursday (Jan 9) stated that Greenland’s sovereignty should be revered after United States president-elect Donald Trump refused to rule out military action to seize the Arctic island.

    “Greenland is a part of Denmark,” Kallas instructed journalists.

    “We have now to respect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Greenland.”

    Trump set off new alarm bells on Tuesday at a information convention when he refused to rule out army intervention over the Panama Canal and Greenland, each of which he has stated he needs the US to regulate.

    The incoming US chief has designs on the mineral- and oil-rich Arctic island, an autonomous territory of EU member Denmark that itself has eyes on independence.

    Kallas stated she had spoken to Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen after Trump’s feedback.

    “She assured that the Danish and American relations have been excellent,” Kallas stated.

    “She additionally stated that it is good that the president-elect takes an curiosity within the Arctic, which is an important area, each for safety but in addition for local weather change.”
