Supreme Court: Negotiate reforms in bipartisan fashion

Re: “Develop the Supreme Courtroom. And weaken it” [July 14, Opinon]:

Like columnist Perry Bacon Jr., I’m a liberal Democrat and I additionally cringe on the misguided choices that the courtroom has lately handed down. Nonetheless, I disagree along with his cures for “fixing” the courtroom.

For my part, the objective of any reform needs to be to spice up the nation’s confidence within the courtroom, to not worsen the partisanship that already erodes its credibility. Stacking the courtroom with liberal judges can be a purely partisan maneuver that may solely worsen the courtroom’s legitimacy within the eyes of half the nation. Reforms needs to be negotiated in bipartisan vogue and embrace subjects equivalent to ethics, time period limits and different concepts for equity that make sure the independence of the courtroom, not its fracturing alongside political strains.

This won’t be straightforward or fast, however we’d like one department of presidency that’s not beholden to a political celebration.
