BEIJING: China mentioned on Friday (Nov 29) it was “keen to work” with a probe into the severing of two Baltic Sea cables linked to a Chinese language ship, after Sweden requested for Beijing’s cooperation with the investigation.

“China is keen to work with related international locations to seek out out the reality,” international ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning instructed an everyday briefing.

“Presently, China and Sweden are sustaining shut communication on this situation,” she added.

Sections of two telecom cables have been lower on Nov 17 and Nov 18 in Swedish territorial waters of the Baltic Sea off the coast of Denmark.

Suspicions have been directed at a Chinese language ship – the Yi Peng 3 – which ship monitoring websites mentioned had sailed over the cables across the time they have been lower, though there’s nothing to point that it was concerned within the incidents.

The Yi Peng 3 has remained anchored within the Kattegat strait between Sweden and Denmark since Nov 19.

“Sweden has … despatched a proper request to China to cooperate with Swedish authorities as a way to create readability on what has occurred. That formal request was despatched to China earlier right now,” Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson instructed a press convention on Thursday.

Denmark’s navy mentioned final week it was shadowing the vessel, which is in worldwide waters. Sweden’s coast guard joined it over the weekend.
