To the editor: Wait, what? A nationwide emergency to hold out mass deportations? (“Trump confirms deportation strategy will include national emergency declaration and military,” Nov. 18)

If that’s the case, and if President-elect Donald Trump as a nationwide chief actually believed it, he would have supported the conservative plan proposed by Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.) earlier this yr to start to deal with that emergency.

However no, he didn’t need the issue solved. He needed to marketing campaign on it.

Why would I imagine that he desires to unravel the border drawback now? Getting the navy concerned — a legally problematic technique — would simply permit him to accrue extra dictatorial energy.

How a lot will this price the taxpayers? And as soon as achieved, what could be the fee to our financial system? Tens of millions of jobs could also be left vacant with nobody to fill them.

As a preview, we will look to China and Japan. For various causes, their birthrates don’t assist the financial system they need. If what I learn is correct, we’re in the same boat, but what helps maintain us affluent is immigration, authorized and unlawful.

    William Elmelund, West Hollywood

    ..

To the editor: The Occasions ought to know by now from his first time period that Trump, not like most politicians, retains his marketing campaign guarantees.

From transferring the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, to decreasing taxes, to defeating Islamic State, to decreasing job-killing laws, to extending the U.S.-Mexico border wall, Trump delivers. That’s why he simply bought reelected.

Proper now, he’s sending a message to of us who wish to cross illegally into the U.S.: Don’t trouble.

    Marcus Kourtjian, Northridge

    ..

To the editor: I’ve a modest proposal, a la Jonathan Swift, for the politicians and residents who voted for them and their want to deport immigrants (whether or not authorized or undocumented).

For every individual slated for deportation, there needs to be a documented particular person or U.S. citizen ready to take that individual’s job (whether or not farm or manufacturing facility employee, fast-food employee or every other employment). If a substitute individual can’t be recognized, then the person focused for deportation needs to be granted standing to stay.

If, as I believe, there aren’t traces of individuals desirous of filling these roles, the affect on our financial system might be catastrophic.

    David Esquith, Northridge
