TEHRAN: Iran on Thursday (Nov 7) referred to as Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election a chance for the USA to reassess previous “mistaken insurance policies”.

Trump, who is about to return to the White Home in January after defeating US Vice President Kamala Harris in Tuesday’s election, had pursued a “most strain” technique on Iran throughout his first time period.

“We now have very bitter experiences with the insurance policies and approaches of various US governments previously,” overseas ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei was quoted as saying by state information company IRNA.

Trump’s win, he added, was an opportunity “to evaluation earlier mistaken insurance policies”.

Iran and the USA have been adversaries for the reason that 1979 Islamic Revolution, which overthrew the Western-backed shah, however tensions peaked throughout Trump’s first time period from 2017 to 2021.

Earlier than Trump was declared the winner on Wednesday, Iran had dismissed the US election as irrelevant.

“The overall insurance policies of the USA and the Islamic Republic of Iran are mounted,” stated authorities spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani.

“It does not matter who turns into president. Plans have already been set in order that there is no such thing as a change in individuals’s livelihood,” she added.

Throughout his first time period, Trump unilaterally withdrew the USA from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal and imposed harsh sanctions on the Islamic republic.

In 2020, below Trump’s presidency, the USA killed revered Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps basic Qasem Soleimani in an air strike on Baghdad airport.
