India denies minister plotted anti-Sikh attacks in Canada

NEW DELHI: India on Saturday (Nov 2) denied its house minister Amit Shah had plotted to focus on Sikh activists on Canadian soil and mentioned it had formally rebuked Ottawa over the “absurd and baseless” allegation.

Canada is house to the most important Sikh group outdoors of India and consists of activists for “Khalistan”, a fringe separatist motion looking for an unbiased state for the non secular minority carved out of Indian territory.

Canadian officers mentioned this week that Ottawa had traced a marketing campaign concentrating on Canadian Khalistan activists to the best ranges of India’s authorities and implicated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s highly effective right-hand man.

“The federal government of India protests within the strongest phrases to the absurd and baseless references made to the Union House Minister of India,” international ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal advised reporters.

“We had summoned the consultant of the Canadian Excessive Fee yesterday. A diplomatic word was handed over,” he added.

Jaiswal accused Canadian officers of intentionally leaking “unfounded insinuations” to the media to “discredit India”.

“Such irresponsible actions may have critical penalties for bilateral ties,” he mentioned.
