To the editor: Whereas Israel is of prime significance to most Jews, the vast majority of us have lengthy supported the Democratic Celebration as a result of its coverage has been to assist folks in want. The duty to assist others has been ingrained in Jews by the Torah, the Jewish bible, which stresses that we should always assist the stranger. Alternatively, the Republican Celebration coverage has been to cut back taxes and let folks in need assistance themselves.
Former President Trump claims that he has carried out extra for the Jews than every other president, forgetting Harry Truman, who instantly acknowledged the brand new state of Israel upon its declaration in 1948.
He says that he can’t perceive why a Jew would vote for a Democrat. As a Jew, I’ve lengthy puzzled how any Jew may vote for a Republican.

To the editor: The headline of Yardena Schwartz’s article, “Are American Jews dropping their long-standing political residence within the Democratic Celebration?,” is each deceptive and provocative.
At greatest, it poses a rhetorical query that implies the reply may simply be “sure.” If one have been to learn no additional, that is perhaps the conclusion one may draw. It isn’t till the ultimate paragraph that some reassurance is weakly supplied: “American Jews’ relationship with Democrats has definitely been difficult, however … it’s more likely to stay sturdy.”
The primary impression, nevertheless, is the lasting one. The suggestion of Jews abandoning their affiliation with the Democratic Celebration by asking the query within the first place is damaging and, I hope, in no way true.
