Donald Trump’s commerce insurance policies have put world markets via the mill in current weeks. However his insurance policies didn’t come from nowhere. Elements of US protectionism preceded Trump’s second time period – and international locations the world over have been pushing for higher self-sufficiency for a while. Is that this drive for higher self-sufficiency misguided? Is true self-sufficiency even doable? Or may the key to financial safety come from extra co-operation, not much less? The FT’s senior enterprise author Andrew Hill sits down with Ben Chu to debate the findings from his new ebook: “Exile Economics: What Occurs if Globalisation Fails.” Chu is the coverage and evaluation correspondent at BBC Confirm and was beforehand the economics editor of BBC Newsnight.
